2007 Margaret River Shiraz

2007 Margaret River Shiraz
2007 was a tremendous vintage for red wines in Margaret River, and it shows in the concentrated, ripe fruit in this Shiraz.
The wine has rich, sweet blackberry fruit and peppery overtones enhanced with further complexity from subtle hints of nutmeg and vanilla from French & American oak. After a generous start, the palate tightens towards the finish with fine, firm tannins.
This excellent Shiraz is ready to drink, but will develop spicy and cedary complexity until at least 2015. It is a great partner to any full-flavoured red meat dishes.

Tasting Note by Nick Bulleid MW
Background

The growing season leading to the 2007 vintage was close to perfect – warm and dry and a welcome change from the previous year. The vintage started very early and proceeded without interruption.

The grapes were grown on a single vineyard at Karridale, in the south of Margaret River. The soils are the red lateritic gravel typical of the region. The grapes were picked in mid April and, following fermentation, the wine was matured in mostly French oak with a small addition of American.

Tasting Notes

Colour
The wine has a deep red colour with purple tinges.

Nose
The nose is complex, combining rich, sweet blackberry fruit and hints of black pepper with subtle overtones of nutmeg and vanilla from the oak.

Structure / Palate
The wine starts generously, with concentrated, rich, sweet-fruit flavours and beautifully married oak. It then becomes firmer, to finish with fine tannins. The overall balance is good and the wine achieves its full flavour without a hint of over-ripeness and with good balance.
