Julian's Tasting Note

This region is one of the most exciting in New Zealand. Home to wineries such as Craggy Range, Hawke’s Bay’s long, hot summers and cool winters offers ideal weather for growing grapes. The climate is dry and temperate.

During the 2007 vintage, while daily maximum temperatures were relatively high, there were very few extremely warm days. This, combined with the lowest summer night time temperatures recorded, resulted in slow ripening under near perfect conditions.
While sugars rose steadily, vine respiration was slow with high acidities retained and plenty of time for colour, tannin and flavour to accumulate. The long dry growing period has meant that no green or herbaceous notes remain.

The result can only be described as sensational. Intensely concentrated wines, yet tempered by what was a cool vintage.

Colour
Medium to deep garnet.

Nose
Cedar, leather, complex mature red fruits.

Structure / Palate
Fine soft tannins support an elegant and stylish wine, well balanced with a warm lingering finish. Mature earthy flavours.

A medium bodied red wine from what is regarded as a classic Hawkes Bay vintage, to be enjoyed over the year.
