Tasting Note by Nick Bulleid MW
Background

In contrast with 2009, the 2010 growing season had good, widespread rainfall and a pleasantly warm summer. Harvest conditions were close to ideal, save for a brief interruption by rain.

The grapes for this stylish Pinot noir were destemmed but not crushed and underwent a 24 hour cold soak before fermentation to increase extraction of colour and flavour. The ferment was plunged by hand and pressed when almost dry. Half the wine was matured in French oak barriques and hogsheads and the remainder in tank to retain fresh fruit.

The Yarra Valley produces Pinot noir with excellent varietal character. This is a nicely balanced, supple Pinot with good varietal flavours. It is ideal for immediate drinking and will gain further complexity into 2013. Enjoy it with duck and other poultry or barbecued seafood. Over summer it will be excellent with salads.
