There are 324 villages (or ‘crus’) with vineyards in the Champagne region. Each cru is rated by a system called échelle des crus. This system gives each village a percentage score for the quality of the grapes. A Grand Cru has a 100% rating, Premier Crus have a 90-99% rating and all other crus are known as the AOC level.
Of the 324 crus representing the Champagne area, only 17 villages are judged worthy to have the Grand Cru appellation. Mailly is one such village.
The Grand Cru grapes are very coveted, rare and expensive. They are only selected for the blending of “prestige cuvées” of the most famous champagne houses.
Only 1% of Champagne's entire production is Grand Cru.

Unlike many houses in Champagne, the entire range of Champagne Mailly is classified Grand Cru. Champagne Mailly source their grapes exclusively from 70 hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyards located in the Mailly village situated in the heart of “Grande Montagne de Reims”. In conjunction with Nick Bulleid MW, BackVintage Wines Australia has reviewed numerous champagnes (there are 12,300 different Houses!).
The Champagne Mailly Grand Cru range is consistent with our focus on premium wines. Of all the Champagne tasted, the Champage Mailly Grand Cru was by far the best. Accordingly, BackVintage Wines Australia has been fortunate to secure the exclusive distribution rights in Australia for sales of Champagne Mailly Grand Cru.
There are only 10 wines in the Champagne Mailly Grand Cru range. They include a Brut Reserve, (vintage) Millesimé, Brut Rosé, Blanc de Noir and the "Les Echansons" super premium Champagne.
We also range the 1998 Millesimé, 1999 Millesimé and half bottles of the Brut Reserve NV to enjoy with your partner.
