Penfolds Grange 1983
The 1983 Grange is predominantly Shiraz with 6% Cabernet blended. Made by Don Ditter, this wine was sourced from vineyards in Kalimna, Magill and Modbury. The vintage affected by severe drought, managed to escape the effects of Ash Wednesday. Following the drought and fires, flooding followed in March.
The nose shows dense, powerful dark chocolate/spice/plum/ briar and mint aromas with some oak-derived coconut. This is a highly concentrated wine showing pronounced extract and tannins balanced with sweet plummy fruit and showing some ‘cigar box’ characters. Drinking now till 2030.
