Tasting Note by Nick Bulleid MW
Background

The 2010 growing season began well in the Barossa with good winter and spring rainfall, combined with periods of warm to hot spring weather. With healthy canopies, the low crops achieved full flavour ripeness 2 to 3 weeks earlier than normal. Vintage 2010 has produced red wines that are deep in colour, have lifted aromatics and are packed full of flavour.

The wine was matured for 16 months in new (25%) and older (75%) American and French oak barrels. BackVintage has added a small proportion of McLaren Vale Shiraz that has given the wine further richness.

Tasting Notes

Colour
Deep purple red colour to the rim.

Nose
Dark berries and well-handled new oak spice combine with hints of vanilla and coffee.

Structure / Palate
Full body, with rich dark fruits and spices. Round and balanced. Plenty of even, mouth-coating tannin is a strong feature.

The season and BackVintage have produced a stylish Barossa red with generous flavours and the firm tannin balance that ensure confident cellaring past 2018.
