2013 Kooyonga Creek Shiraz - New!
Nick Bulleid MW's Tasting Notes

Kooyonga Creek Vineyard lies at about 250m altitude in the foothills of Mt. Samaria, south of Benalla. Barry and Pam Saunders planted the vineyard in 2000. The Creek, which runs through their property, is famous for the gemstone jasper.

The 2013 vintage followed a warm growing season and produced generously flavoured reds in northeast Victoria. The wine was aged in older oak barrels for 14 months.

Colour
A mid tawny/brick red.

Nose
Very complex, with dark plum, spices and a little chocolate.

Structure / Palate
Medium, to full bodied, with rich, mature flavours of chocolate, dark fruits and hints of fruitcake. Balanced, firm tannins on the finish.

The wine is now mature, but will hold its quality until at least 2020.

It is a perfect accompaniment with a barbecued steak or char-grilled vegetables.
