BackgroundThe Russell Rd vineyard is in the Frankland region in the southwest of Western Australia. During the 2013/14 vintage, Frankland experienced even, mild temperatures through spring with good rainfall and occasional storms. The warm summer brought the grapes to ripeness in early April. The final blend is composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot. The wine was matured for 12 months in new and used French oak barrels.
ColourModerately deep red with a little purple.
NoseAttractive red fruits with hints of blackcurrant. Subtle, spicy oak.
Structure / PalateMedium bodied, with good depth of red fruit and bottle age adding cedar complexity. Merlot adds fullness and continuity to the mid-palate. The wine finishes with firm, balanced tannins.
This well-structured Cabernet Merlot is ready for drinking and is well suited to flavoursome red meats dishes, particularly lamb. It will soften and gain further complexity until at least 2019.
92 points and 2019 Top Value award from James Halliday. A rich, plump palate with generous flavours of red and dark cherry, combined with spices from French oak...
