Nick Bulleid MW's Tasting Note

Background

The lead up to the 2021 vintage was ideal with mild conditions in spring and summer, followed by a rejuvenating rain event in late January. February remained mild and mostly dry ahead of harvest on 5th February.

The parcel was machine harvested at 12.2 Baume, in the cool of the early morning, and delivered to the winery for destemming and membrane pressing.  No sulphur dioxide was added, so that phenolic textures could be avoided. Clarification via centrifugation immediately followed, with the juice inoculated with an aroma enhancing yeast strain for fermentation at low temperature in stainless steel.

After four months aging sur lie to build body and complexity, the wine was bottled without oak.

Colour
Pale lemon yellow.

Nose
Delicate and fresh, with light pear aroma.

Structure / Palate
Light and fresh in the grigio style. Fine pear flavours, a hint of white nectarine. Finishes cleanly, with moderate acidity.

This is a delicate, refreshing grigio. It is ideal for drinking now and over the coming 12 months, while its freshness is to the fore.

It’s enjoyable by itself or even better with fish, salads and vegetable stir-fries.
